Why do I still see mosquitoes after treatment?

You may still occasionally see mosquitoes between treatments. New mosquitoes can fly onto your property from neighboring yards, wooded areas, drainage areas, ponds, creeks, and other nearby breeding locations.

Mosquito control works best as an ongoing program, particularly during the warmer months when mosquitoes are actively reproducing.

What can I do to help reduce mosquitoes around my property?

One of the biggest things homeowners can do is eliminate standing water.

Mosquitoes don't need a swimming pool to reproduce. Small amounts of water can become breeding areas, so regularly check things like:

• Birdbaths
• Buckets and flowerpots
• Children's toys
• Wheelbarrows
• Tarps
• Clogged gutters
• Pet water bowls
• Outdoor containers
• Poorly draining areas
• Water collecting in lawn equipment or furniture

Dumping unnecessary standing water and keeping your property maintained can make a noticeable difference.

I just moved to Tennessee. Are mosquitoes really that bad here?

Welcome to East Tennessee. It's beautiful, but the bugs also seem to appreciate the scenery.

Our warm temperatures, humidity, rainfall, vegetation, wooded properties, creeks, lakes, and long warm season create excellent conditions for mosquitoes and many other pests.

If you're moving here from a drier or cooler part of the country, you may notice significantly more insect activity than you're accustomed to. That doesn't necessarily mean there's something wrong with your home. It's part of living in our climate.

When is mosquito season in East Tennessee?

Mosquito activity generally increases as temperatures warm in the spring and can continue well into the fall.

Rather than relying strictly on the calendar, we pay attention to temperatures, rainfall, and actual mosquito activity. Tennessee weather doesn't always read the calendar either.

Does having a wooded property make mosquitoes worse?

It can. Mosquitoes often rest in cool, shaded, humid areas, which means heavily landscaped and wooded properties can provide excellent mosquito habitat.

That doesn't mean you need to clear your property. It simply means we may need to pay particular attention to shaded vegetation, landscaping, tree lines, drainage areas, and other places where mosquitoes are likely to congregate.

What about creeks, ponds, lakes, or drainage areas near my home?

Nearby water can contribute to mosquito pressure, but the water itself isn't always the problem. Different mosquito species prefer different breeding environments.

We'll focus on the conditions we can reasonably address on your property and help identify things that may be contributing to mosquito activity.

Do you only treat mosquitoes?

No. Mosquitoes are only one part of pest control in East Tennessee. Depending on the property and season, homeowners may also encounter ants, spiders, centipedes, millipedes, rodents, termites, and other common household pests.

If you're new to the area, we're happy to look at the property and talk with you about what is normal for East Tennessee, what we recommend preventing, and what actually needs treatment. We don't believe every bug requires a five-alarm emergency, or a giant pest-control package.
